What is Weekend Knockout?

A weekly NHL survivor pool for our group. Every weekend, you pick one team to win. If they win, you're through to the next weekend. If they lose, you're out. You can only use each team once all season, so you can't just keep picking the best team. Everyone chips in $20, and the last player standing wins the pot.

    Scores update on their own. Everyone's picks are revealed once the picks lock.

    Win and you play on next weekend. Lose, or forget to pick, and you're out of the money, but you can keep picking for bragging rights.

The rules

One pick per weekend

Pick any 1 NHL team playing Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If your team wins, you survive to next weekend. If they lose (including in OT or a shootout), you're knocked out.

Picks lock Friday at 6:00 PM ET

You can change your pick as often as you like until the deadline. Friday games that start before 6:00 PM ET don't count and can't be picked.

Each team only once

Once you've used a team, it's gone for the rest of the season. Save the powerhouses for tough weekends.

No pick = knocked out

If you don't have a pick in by the Friday deadline, you're eliminated that weekend. Add the Friday reminder in Settings (the gear up top).

Picks stay secret until lock

Nobody can see anyone else's pick until Friday at 6:00 PM ET. After the deadline, every pick is revealed on the leaderboard.

Joined late? Request a pick

You can sign up any time. If you join after the Friday 6:00 PM lock, you can request a pick on any game that hasn't started yet, and the commissioner has to approve it before it counts.

Knocked out? Keep playing

Once you're out you can't win the pot, but you can keep picking every weekend. The "Out of the Money" board on the leaderboard ranks everyone by how many picks they get right. Same rules, each team only once, and there's no penalty for skipping a weekend. No prize, just bragging rights.

If everyone loses, everyone survives

If every remaining player is knocked out on the same weekend, they all stay alive and the pool continues.

$20 entry · winner takes all

The last player standing wins the whole pot. If more than one player is still alive at the end of the regular season, the pot is split evenly.

Postponed games

If your game is postponed out of the weekend, the commissioner voids it and you survive (the team still counts as used).

  2. Tap the three dots menu at the top right of the browser.

  4. Confirm, and the Weekend Knockout icon lands on your home screen.

  1. Open the website in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add, and the Weekend Knockout icon lands on your home screen.
